ALERT!
DIVISION B & C MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION PROCESS Before you can participate in any Science Olympiad District, Invitational, Regional, State or National Tournament, your school needs to become a member of your State and the National Science Olympiad. For details on how to become a Science Olympiad Member, first locate your State’s Website that can be found at http://www.soinc.org, then locate and complete your state’s combined Membership Form (some call it a Registration Form). If you have trouble finding the State Membership Form on your State’s Website, please e-mail or call your state director. If your state is not listed, e-mail or call the Science Olympiad National office. Mere possession of the rules does not make you eligible to participate in any contest other than in your classroom. At the district and invitational levels, a member school can bring as many students as the organizers allow, but at the other levels teams are restricted to a maximum of 15 students per team. Extra teams are allowed in many states, but all must have a separate paid membership. The membership fee entitles the member school to a copy of the Science Olympiad Rules Manual plus the eligibility to have students participate at the first level of competition in their state. A percentage of winning teams will remain eligible to advance to the next level. At the National level a majority of the states will send one team per division. The states with larger membership will be invited to send two teams per division. It is important that schools submit a membership fee early to receive a copy of the rules. Specific rules have been developed for each event and need to be read carefully so the team can compete successfully. At the school building level, schools are encouraged to have the entire student body participate to determine who will represent their school. However, at the next level, many states and regions restrict tournament participation to one team per school while others allow multiple teams from the same school (State Directors will notify schools if multiple memberships are permitted). If multiple teams from the same school are permitted, each team must pay the full National and State Membership fees and have separate coaches. A few states have reduced state fees for new, urban or multiple teams. Only one team per school is permitted to represent their state at the National Finals. Some states also limit the number of teams that can advance from regional tournaments. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
