National Executive Board Member and Pennsylvania State Director Dick Smith
Dick Smith, one of the longest-serving officials in Science Olympiad's history, passed away on March 17, 2010, after a long illness. Dick was the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad State Director for 26 years, served on the National Executive Board and chaired the Arbitration Committee at Science Olympiad National Tournaments. He and his wife, Mimi, attended most of the National Tournaments over the past three decades and ran such events as Write It Do It. Dick was widely respected for his sterling judgement and his unwavering integrity, and he will be sorely missed by the entire Science Olympiad family. We all loved him.
Private services will be held in April. If anyone wishes to honor Dick's legacy in a tangible way, the Smith Family is requesting donations be sent to support the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad. Checks can be made payable to: "S.T.E.P." with "PA Science Olympiad" in the memo and sent to: Pennsylvania Science Olympiad, c/o Roger Demos, Acting State Director, 122 Woodview Ln., Media, PA, 19063.
