September & October 2007
Dear Science in the City Participants:
Thank you for visiting the Science Olympiad
web site! We hope that you are having fun
and learning while taking part in the Straw
Tower Challenge - please remember to post
your results and upload your Straw Tower
photos at
www.chicagoscienceinthecity.org under
the heading “Science in the Schools.”
As part of the Science in the City program,
we encourage you to come see us at the three
Neighborhood Science Carnivals on the north,
west and south sides on October 6, 8 & 13,
where you’ll have a chance to experiment and
learn at booths hosted by Chicago
universities, museums and non-profits
engaged in science.
While you’re here at the Science Olympiad
site, please take the time to check out our
events for elementary, middle and high
school students. Whether you are a student,
parent or teacher, you can find ways to get
involved with hands-on science activities
and competitions in subject areas like
biology, chemistry, robotics, physics,
technology, engineering, astronomy,
epidemiology and more. In addition to the
170+ Science Olympiad teams in Illinois,
Science Olympiad has 5,000 member schools
participating in regional, state and
national tournaments all across the United
States. Our professional development
workshops are open to all teachers and
available throughout the year.
